Last Ride of the 2006

mood: relaxed

So, with it being the last day of 2006 AND the weather looking good for the day (a high in the mid-60s), I decided to head to the Rock Store for breakfast this morning after my workout.

I made good time getting there and had a little fun along the way wink Once I got there I got my new camera out and started taking pictures. I was experimenting with the "Panormic-mode" and was able to come up with this:

I think it came out pretty good (except of the phantom Chopper wheel). Shortly after I finished taking these pictures, I heard the sound of a jet engine. Since I had heard it before in these parts, I knew it could be none other than Jay Leno on his Jet Bike.

As you can see, it gathers quite a crowd. Maybe even more than Jay Leno was getting by himself . . but it was pretty close.

I decided to walk around a bit after my breakfast and look at some of the bikes. You can tell Christmas had been good to a lot of riders. Apparently, Santa likes Bikers too big grin

Below are a couple of pictures of a tricked out R1, a picture of a blinged out GSXR and a very trick Cruiser. On the rear picture of the R1, notice there is no undertail exhaust confused

Once I was done looking and the crowd had calmed down after Jay Leno's departure, I dediced to head up to the overlook and get a few pictures up there:

I hung out there for a bit a chatted it up with a few guys there. The overlook has always been a more intimate environment, so it's a lot easier to strike up a conversation with a stranger there.

Since I did want to watch some football today too. I decided to go ahead and get some more pictures from the top of Stunt Road before I headed home to watch some football on the big screen.

As you can see from the picture below, it's not called Stunt Road because that's where all the stunting is done. The road is literally called Stunt.

All and all, a good day of riding. Didn't see any accidents, the weather was mild and the only thing I saw getting chased by the police was a Subaru WRX cool eh?

Holiday Happiness

mood: Happy . . duh

Couldn't think of a better subject title, sorry, but it just seemed so appropriate for this entry. big grin

I must have been a good boy this year cause Santa brought me a great toy to augment the coming years, track days. An awesome support vehicle:

It's a 1999 Chevy Silverado 1500. It was my first choice on AutoTrader and I got a smokin' deal on it. Naturally, the F5-60 Chrome Wheels caught my eye, but the mileage is good (expected for a truck this old) and it was well maintained.

I got it just in time to avoid having to ride in the breif but wet winter storm we had last week.

The weather started to clear up a bit and get back to our Sunny SoCal expectations. I had also finally finished restoring Robyn to her "pre-stolen" glory. The last piece I was missing was rear turn signals. Once I was able to get a new license plate hanger from Evolution Composites mounted, I had a place to put the Motrax LED Arrow Turn Signals.

I did that bit of work last night so that I could go out for a ride today. I woke up this morning and gave Robyn a quick cleaning:

I then made my way over to the Rock Store. I stopped there for a bit and chatted with a few of the locals.

I didn't want to waste too much of the warm part of the day (the High was 67F in Malibu) so I continued on down Mulholland. I stopped at another scenic spot on Mulholland to get these pictures.

I didn't even mention that I got a new DigiCam (cause I lost my last one). So, I expect to have much better quality pics from now on. smile

I may get lucky enough to have time and good weather so I can take a little more spirited ride before the new year. wink

Houston . . We have lift off

mood: Happy

Well, after 40 days and 40 nights of not being able to ride my Robyn, I'm finally back on two wheels.

Thanks to Kyle Racing for getting me a smokin deal on my new Sato exhaust (minus the mufflers):

Also thanks to Ron Ayers Motorsports for getting me the Water pump outlet pipe.

The work was no easy task. Natually, everything took me longer than I anticipated. I started out draining the engine oil (simple task), then I could move to removing the oil filter, removing the oil cooler and a few hoses so I could get to the damaged Water Pump Outlet pipe. Keep in mind the front wheel, front fender, radiator, lower cowling, mid-cowling and exhaust were already off the bike.

I made pretty quick work of removing and replacing the Water Pump Outlet pipe. These pictures give you a better look at the damage:

Once that was complete, I had to start putting everything back together. It only took me 6.5 hours to do. I'm obviously more interested in riding than wrenching, but I took my time to make sure everything was right and it paid off. Started up and performed superbly on her test run this evening.
