First Canyon Carving Experience

mood: excited

It was a beautiful 65+ degree day in SoCal (considering it's late December, this is beautiful weather).

I had finally gotten a lot of chores taken care of so I decided to see what Robyn could do in the canyons. I wanted to make sure it was on roads I was familiar with, so I could honestly evaluate her performance.

Being a Rock Store regular, I decided to take Robyn there first.

I then decided to carve up Mulholland and Decker Canyon. Let me just say that this bike is . . . WOW!!
She pulls hard from everywhere in the rev range. The suspension and handling is out-of-this world. Never ridden a bike with Mag wheels before I got this bike, let me just say . . I finally understand the hype. Side-to-side transitions are quick and easy. I almost thought I was doing something wrong because I wasn't tired at the point I was used to being tired.

Here's a shot from the Overlook on Mulholland in the Santa Monica Mountains. She's looking good and certainly in her domain.

What a ride, what a bike

Here she is right before I left NorCal yesterday.

After 45 minutes of light rain ans fog, it was basically smooth sailing from there. I had to stop a couple of times for gas (and to stretch my legs). Stuck to the 101 since I wasn't sure how the weather would hold up. Plus, when you're getting your first chance to ride a bike with this much HP, you want a relaxing environment to get acquainted.

This is what she looked like 270 miles later at home.

I'll get some better picture with my good DigiCam later, these are from my camera phone. (Not bad for a phone) wink

She's mine!!!

Today at 12:47pm . . I took ownership of Robyn. On the way back from picking her up, my buddy ApexMolester, had a great route planned for us to allow me to "get a better feel for" how she rides. wink Just when we were getting into an area that was away from traffic . confused what's this ? ? Rain.

We decided it was best to just head straight for a safe, dry place to leave Robyn until the morning. satisfied

After dropping her off, we had to stop by a Motorcycle shop so AM could finish up a purchase for his son (why wasn't my Dad like this?). AM's obviously a regular here, as everyone called him by first name. big grin

Then, he started telling people who's R1 I bought. The look on their faces when he told them let's me know . . I need to be careful on this thing. But, I can tell you from the 15 miles I rode it . . feels like a 600 (ligther than my 600RR) with a MONSTER motor past 9K rpm.

I'll certainly get some pictures up ASAP . . but let me just say . . pictures just don't do this bike justice. Only in person can you begin in understand just why this bike has the reputation it does.

This is going to be exciting . . smile

Today is the day

I'm so excited, I can't sleep. Even though a shuttle will be here in 5 hours to pick me up. Today will be the first time I'm actually face-to-face with Robyn. I'm looking forward to it. big grin

My next entry will be after my ride home.

Tuesday, December 20th

Just another 48 hours to go . .

48 hours from now, I'll be getting off a plane and heading over to pick up Robyn. It will probably be raining, but I really don't care. Getting a chance to ride again, especially on your OWN bike after 8 months, even if it's raining . . is priceless.

The Planned Route

A week from today I will be riding back from NorCal. I've already planned my route. I should be getting off PCH around this time next week and getting onto the 101. big grin

BTW, A one-way ticket up there would have cost me $290, but a round trip ticket cost me $220 . . go figure .. confused
